Paris has always been a fantastic city for entertainment thanks to its many theatres and other venues. More than the theatre and opera, Leonard Bäcksbacka enjoyed the popular pastimes of music halls and the circus, as did many artists of the period. Circus performances were colourful and plentiful, the audience was thrilled by the acrobats and trapeze artists and laughing at the clowns. One special attraction were the trained and sometimes exotic animals brought in from the colonies.
